I was tasked with creating a design magazine and its first issue inspired by graphic objects in the urban environment.

From photographic documentation I found an abundance of graphic communication in the form of stickers, graffiti, billboards and posters, however something I previously took for granted was the non-visual guiding communication in the urban environment.

Speculative magazine RAISED’s first issue seeks to bring attention to the tactile environment that goes mostly unnoticed by the sighted. RAISED magazine is designed with the intention of inclusion through braille, an audio magazine option, simple high contrast visuals and larger body copy. To be true to the magazine’s values, I challenged myself to hand emboss braille translations throughout.
