DRAG TEA

PACKAGING

ILLUSTRATION

The brief was to create a series of 3 packaging designs for any dry consumable product.

Whilst tea is a saturated market with a long-standing association with royalty I noticed an arguably more engaging group of royalty underrepresented despite their own history with tea, Drag queens. From this insight, Drag Tea’s herbal tea collection based on an appreciation of drag culture was born.

Tea is slang for gossip, originating from the black queer scene. Each drag queen illustration looks like she is listening to some tea being spilled as a reference to this history. Wanting to challenge myself, I experimented with creating my own box dielines until I landed on the simple extravagance of a drawer with ribbon for that touch of extra that is prominent in Drag culture. Further attention-grabbing aesthetics inspired by drag are seen in the design's bright contrasting colours and patterns.
